December dawns

So it's officially summer.

And, what, 23 days until Christmas?

We haven't even got the advent calendar up yet!

Too distracted by painting these beads. Just the gloss to add, colours to combine and the chain to thread...

These blackboards need a second coat, then they're ready too.

Loving the new earring 'settings'. More coming soon.

Christmas headbands. Or a pretty peg board. Ready now. Yay!

A wreath for any time, but especially for now.

'All I want for Chrismas', is more time to do it all!

What's on your Christmas wish list?

Party Season

A third birthday recently celebrated in our family:

Inclement weather required the garage to be set up for the party...

...With a clothesline of photos of the birthday girl...

... and The Penny Drops' signature crocheted wire name set the scene on the food table.

Bringing the outdoors in - the tables draped in ivy and The Penny Drops fabric flowers.

A birthday set - that started with a t-shirt in the birthday girl's favourite colour.

Detail of the skirt.

The birthday girl enjoyed herself :)

We ate and drank...

Mini flower pots filled with edibles: chocolate crunch 'soil', sour apple 'stems' and fondant flowers.
Tip: if you want the flowers to stay upright, don't leave them sitting in the sun on a windowsill...

Rainbow fruit kebabs to go with the cake.

Fruit added to water is always a hit with the kids, to temper the other treats on offer.

And of course a cake.

Not so much a pot, as wee flecks of gold at the ends of the rainbow, hidden amongst the clouds comprised of mints, yoghurt covered dried fruits and marshmellows.

Busy busy busy

So it's been a while huh?

These bright fun flowers triggered a busy spell of custom orders

Life's been kinda busy.

A beautiful moment

And so has The Penny Drops.

A new range of cards featuring The Penny Drops' original photos in the shop

Lots of custom orders - like these bouquets.

And a few other pieces in the mix.

The call went out and some great suggestions for names came in - meet Humphrey.

Not to mention a heap of newborn photo shoots, a couple of maternity shoots that preceeded the babies, busy open days at the shop and Christmas making underway!

Promise I'll be back sooner than last time.

Flying the coup

I sold a couple of pieces of art over the weekend.

Stocks are dwindling.

So I'm looking forward to dusting off the brushes soon. It's been a while.

These pieces are being sold framed - not my usual habit, but they look good in these distressed minty green frames.

As a pair or on their own. First in first served here.

P.S. Remember this jacket... now in action, with the addition of a button:

Bow Wow

The story starts with a photo.

Trip of a lifetime: Notre Dame, Paris, 2012

And continues with a recycling centre bargain ($10) frame.

As always, loving the Wanaka recycling centre

A cheap print job means the picture is frequently replaced.

And in the spirit of not wasting anything, this bow adorns our door for a recent party.

Make your own in any size and from any type of paper. We used my daughter's paintings to decorate preschool farewell gifts (we're off to school...). Tutorials abound online: like this link found via Pinterest.com.

A new picture is now in the frame, but not for long... already scheming the next supersized papercraft project.

When four runs out

We are in complete birthday preparation mode for the next 2 weeks at our place.

It all starts and ends with 5...

So we do the rounds of pre-school activities to say goodbye, add another couple of school visits to our quota and squeeze in a last-chance-to-fly-when-it-suits trip to Christchurch.

This brings the cake tally to 4 at last count.

[There's a gaggle of wee ballerinas who might like these rings just a bit, don't you think?]

Lately

After sharing these flowers, I received some custom orders. Particularly loving the black.

Also loving the weather lately.

And my daughters are loving these rings.

And willingly putting them through their paces in preparation for adding to the shop...

Another custom order has been dispatched. Now I need one for myself!

More crochet - this lampshade has been a vision that's been bugging me. I'm not questioning the colour choice(s) - just going with it. What do you think?

More baby photos. This one's not mine - baby that is.

But this one is: 2 months old!
